Marmaris, Turkey
-the Turkish Riviera
|
| |
Once you
set your foot here you will join its true holiday atmosphere!
The old quarter of the town with its bustling bazaars and restaurants
are well worth a visit. Once a little fishing port, Marmaris
has developed into one of Turkey's busiest and most Anglicised
resorts.
Many holiday makers are keen to sample the town's extensive
facilities and visit the archaeological sites nearby - the ancient
city of Efes, (the second biggest city of Roman Empire, after
Rome);and the unmissable Pamukkale - the 8th world wonder. |

Marmaris is an international sailing centre with the annual
"Marmaris Yacht Festival" to boast of, in which
a large number of yachts visit to show off their splendour.
Overlooked by the Ottoman Castle built by Sultan Suleiman
in 1522, Marmaris has everything to offer whether of western
or eastern origin.

Marmaris also is the
South Aegean's prettiest resort for scuba diving. There are
several dive centres in Marmaris that arrange guided diving
trips, excursions and even provide diving lessons for the inexperienced
individuals, eager to try out this underwater sport.
Netsel Marina is a thoroughly modern port with every imaginable
facility, whose sophistication would not be out of place on
the Cote d'Azure. Marmaris has it all, including a wonderful
setting in a huge natural harbour with a landscape not unlike
Tuscany. |

Shopping is a delight in Marmaris. Some truly shop till they
drop in this shopping Mecca! Leather goods of all kinds, natural
sponges and the local blue glass beads (the Boncuk) are among
the bargains to be found in the friendly little shops along
the downtown bazaar. Charming boutiques at the end of the promenade
offer kilims, carpets, sandals and embroidery as well as original
fashions. |
